Light dinner for one!

After doubles at Movez class tonight, I was hungry but didn't feel like cooking and the leftover jerk salmon, mashed potatoes and broccoli I had in the fridge seemed too heavy for 10:30pm.

What's a girl to do?!

Make a salad of course...but not just any ole salad...Tuna salad sans mayo (I have a strong distaste for all condiments except BBQ sauce; it's serious...I don't like the look, the smell and don't expect me to touch it...why is French's mustard the same color as the yellow Crayola crayon? And why does mayo smell like glue? Anywho I digress)

Tuna Salad over Arugula with Simple Lemon Dressing

Ingredients

1 can of tuna (Whole Foods Albacore in water)
1/4 small red onion diced small
1 stalk of celery diced small
Jalapeño diced small (amount depends in how spicy you like it)
8 basil leaves- rolled up and chopped...I can't think of the fancy name for this chopping style
1 garlic clove diced small
1/2 lemon worth of lemon juice
2 tsp olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Arugula

Directions
1. Place tuna in a bowl and use a fork to flake into tiny pieces
2. Add onion, celery, jalapeño, basil, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, salt an pepper to bowl
3. Mix well and serve over arugula

Tadaaaaa! Dinner....oh the simple lemon dressing is to squeeze a little extra lemon over the completed salad.

I enjoyed this with a glass of Lambrusco you can drink what you please!

Hope you enjoy :-)

Resolving Resolutions?

My goal for myself at the beginning of the year (notice I did not use the term New Year's Resolution) was to lose 30lbs by March. I planned on doing this using Weight Watchers which has worked well for me in the past and Bikram Yoga and MoveZ. I'll explain them all a little more below

Too cold for copper hair....

I wanted to do something different with my hair because I was getting tired of the light ends from when i dyed it an auburnish color over the summer… Don't get me wrong I love my auburn hair during the summer but it just doesn't fit with the snow in Baltimore right now. My friend Katrina has this kinda purpleish reddish dark burgundy beautiful color with these 2 blonde highlighted streaks close to her ears and I am in love with her hair color.

Sorry for the creepy eyes!
So after work while it was snowing this past Friday I drove to Target and pick up some shoelaces, some root beer float Extra gum and Healthy Look semipermanent hair color in 4BR chocolate cherry

The process was pretty simple...I combed thru my hair first then applied the color in small sections about 3 inches...I pulled my hair into a ponytail and let it sit for the recommended 20 minutes. When I do this again I'll leave the color in longer.

Afterward I rinsed and conditioned as recommended then I used Oyin Handmade Hair Dew and Brown Sugar pomade to pretreat my hair before blow drying it straight. I really wanted to see the new color and rarely if ever can I see it in my natural curly state. Although I could immediately see my light ends were significantly darker.

I styled my hair in six chunky flat twists and this was the end result. I absolutely love the new color....almost so much I'm contemplating doing a permanent job because after living with the semipermanent color for about two weeks now (I know I'm bad at keeping up with this stuff) I'm getting tired of all the color leeching onto everything. When I wash my hands the water is purple, if I put any creamy product in my hair...it turns purple. My cream colored winter coat color has a tinge of purple on it...it's everywhere.... But I still love it in my hair the most.

What do you guys think?

I'm Back!!

...but who know's for how long it will be...I'm bad about starting things when I'm bored and stopping when I get busy but who isn't right?? Not much has changed since August it's just cold as crap outside all of a sudden.

I really want to find a focus for this blog but I don't know if it should be my weight loss journey...my natural hair journey...things I cook, things I sew...my love life (or lack there of) or should I just make it a conglomeration of all of thee above but how then do I go about organizing it?? I don't know...

I have an app on my iPad that would make this blogging thing so much easier but I can't get it to work but I promise for all of my readers out there (wishful thinking) I'll get it together and have some entertaining posts for you all to look at :-) Until then!!

Second Chances...

ohhhhh hey blog of mine!!

I just finished reading a post from a high school friend Tatiana's blog...check her out (http://lipstickandsippycups.blogspot.com)  we are both new at this blogging thing and haven't really gotten the hang of blogging every day...week...or month...lol but she's made an effort to post more often and I think I should to...so here's to day 1 of second chances...

Speaking of second chances...this past Saturday I went to a thrift/consignment shop in Baltimore called Second Chance that I have been trying to go to got a while now... Shout Out to Second Chance...if anyone from there reads this you guys should really put arrows or signs around the warehouse showing how to get to the entrance...I've passed up a visit to the store 3 times because I couldn't find the entrance...but I gave you guys another shot and FINALLY found the entrance and I'm so glad I did because although 75% of the store is out of my price range...the clearance section was amazing.

I have been looking for a wooden dresser to replace my 9 year old Malm Ikea furniture for a while now but for various reasons (including price and the inability to fit big furniture in my little sedan) I haven't had much luck...But this weekend I found this beauty at Second Chance...
Showing off my great Mani/Pedi and excellent thrifted find! Oh and Cannoli chips haha
And guess how much I paid for it??

$18.55 for a solid wood cedar drawer dresser...granted it's missing a drawer pull but who cares I've got plans to replace those. I'm also considering refinishing the dresser with maybe a lacquered paint but my dad doesn't think I should...

Welp...I'll get back to you guys tomorrow with something else new and exciting going on in my naturally insane life...leave me comments!

I'm sorry it's been a while since I last blogged and I wish I could say its because I've been busy but the truth is...I haven't...there's not much that I don't like about myself but one thing would be my lack of consistency without force...by that I mean unless someone is on my back to do something I haven't already integrated into my life I tend to fall of the wagon and come back to it when I feel like it....that being said I have been working on a new project. I'm not yet ready to reveal it but here's a sneak peek... Hopefully...I'll get it right soon so I can reveal it...in the meantime Happy 4th of July everyone!

Can't sleep...make a skirt

Last night around 1145pm I found it awfully strange that I wasn't asleep...especially because I'm normally in bed by 1030 anywho...after talking to my dad and showing him my bucket of refashions to do and a full day of shopping at the outlets I decided again at damn near midnight to start making this maxi skirt...I thought it would be as easy as sewing a tube and adding a waist band but I ended up sewing a tube and not accounting for my ample hips and the skirt didn't fit... Sewing Tip: DON'T CUT OFF EXCESS FABRIC UNTIL YOU ARE SURE YOU HAVE THE FIT YOU'RE AIMING FOR!!! So I ended up having to add a panel to accommodate my hips then add darts to the back of the skirt and the sides of the waistband anywho this is what I came up with..I love that its high waisted and almost looks like a dress I just finished it this morning. And I really want to wear it out to lunch with a friend but I don't have the perfect shoes yet :-) LeAve me comments!!
