Bum Knee Bummed Me

So I hurt myself on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at around 7 o'clock at night. It was a cloudy night still light outside with about a 60% chance of rain and I just got home from being out somewhere and was trying to figure out what I wanted to eat for dinner. Then it dawned on me I had the Amish bread starter that my mom gave me which makes awesome bread and some slices of pepperoni like sandwich style pepperoni and some cheese my refrigerator and I wanted to have pepperoni bread for dinner.

Problem was I was still training or attempting to stay on track to train for a 5K that I'm supposed to run at the end of September and I hadn't run at all that week I knew that if I didn't get this run in that day then I would be behind on my schedule and I would feel guilty about eating the pepperoni bread without working out. I also was on the market for some new running shoes since the ones I have been running with a were well over 2-3 years old but I hadn't  found a pair to replace them yet so instead of putting on the old sneakers I put on another pair of sneakers that I had never ran in before and proceeded to go out for my run.

Besides a couple shinsplints I was good I was on my run was 20 minutes in and doing good and then all of a sudden out of nowhere I fell... I tripped...I don't know whether I tripped over my foot I don't know whether I tripped over the sewer top in the middle of the street I don't know.I have no clue I'll all I know is I fell.

I grabbed my left leg and I could feel that something was not right it felt like someone had punched my knee all the in. the back my leg was bowed it was disgusting so I screamed for help and luckily a guy was sitting on his step down the street he ran over to me and he grabbed my dog and asked what he could do to help. I happened to look down at my knee and it just wasn't there! my leg was so gross I don't even how to explain it.  my kneecap wasn't in the right spot and There was a horizontal valley where my kneecap should have been...I couldn't move and it was very very very painful the screams that I screamed I don't know if they were more so Out of pain out of shock out of disbelief I don't know it was just bad

I called an ambulance and the guy stopped a cop who was roaming down the street. The ambulance came and took me to the hospital Where I found out that I dislocated my knee and possibly tore at least two ligaments and fractured a bone. In the emergency room they reset my knee... put me in a brace and checked to make sure that my that the circulation of the blood in my leg remained and sent me home to rest for 10 to 14 days before I could see sports medicine doctor.

Crazy coincidence or not! one of my friends stopped by my house to pick up some clothes for me and the day that I was discharged from the hospital also happened to be the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Katrina hitting New Orleans and what shirt did I happen to be wearing but my St. Bernard project volunteer shirt!!

And so here I sit...on my couch as I have been sitting since Thursday, August 29, 2013

I had my MRI done yesterday so I should know tomorrow what's going off my leg and for all of you guys who've been asking for pics I'm going to post below the pictures of my legs it's really gross but it's really cool at the same time I cannot believe how huge my knee looks...

SOME MAY FIND THE PICTURES CONTAINED BELOW DISTURBING... YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

My left knee is no lie to 2.5 times bigger than my uninjured right knee!

Light dinner for one!

After doubles at Movez class tonight, I was hungry but didn't feel like cooking and the leftover jerk salmon, mashed potatoes and broccoli I had in the fridge seemed too heavy for 10:30pm.

What's a girl to do?!

Make a salad of course...but not just any ole salad...Tuna salad sans mayo (I have a strong distaste for all condiments except BBQ sauce; it's serious...I don't like the look, the smell and don't expect me to touch it...why is French's mustard the same color as the yellow Crayola crayon? And why does mayo smell like glue? Anywho I digress)

Tuna Salad over Arugula with Simple Lemon Dressing

Ingredients

1 can of tuna (Whole Foods Albacore in water)
1/4 small red onion diced small
1 stalk of celery diced small
Jalapeño diced small (amount depends in how spicy you like it)
8 basil leaves- rolled up and chopped...I can't think of the fancy name for this chopping style
1 garlic clove diced small
1/2 lemon worth of lemon juice
2 tsp olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Arugula

Directions
1. Place tuna in a bowl and use a fork to flake into tiny pieces
2. Add onion, celery, jalapeño, basil, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, salt an pepper to bowl
3. Mix well and serve over arugula

Tadaaaaa! Dinner....oh the simple lemon dressing is to squeeze a little extra lemon over the completed salad.

I enjoyed this with a glass of Lambrusco you can drink what you please!

Hope you enjoy :-)

Resolving Resolutions?

My goal for myself at the beginning of the year (notice I did not use the term New Year's Resolution) was to lose 30lbs by March. I planned on doing this using Weight Watchers which has worked well for me in the past and Bikram Yoga and MoveZ. I'll explain them all a little more below

Too cold for copper hair....

I wanted to do something different with my hair because I was getting tired of the light ends from when i dyed it an auburnish color over the summer… Don't get me wrong I love my auburn hair during the summer but it just doesn't fit with the snow in Baltimore right now. My friend Katrina has this kinda purpleish reddish dark burgundy beautiful color with these 2 blonde highlighted streaks close to her ears and I am in love with her hair color.

Sorry for the creepy eyes!
So after work while it was snowing this past Friday I drove to Target and pick up some shoelaces, some root beer float Extra gum and Healthy Look semipermanent hair color in 4BR chocolate cherry

The process was pretty simple...I combed thru my hair first then applied the color in small sections about 3 inches...I pulled my hair into a ponytail and let it sit for the recommended 20 minutes. When I do this again I'll leave the color in longer.

Afterward I rinsed and conditioned as recommended then I used Oyin Handmade Hair Dew and Brown Sugar pomade to pretreat my hair before blow drying it straight. I really wanted to see the new color and rarely if ever can I see it in my natural curly state. Although I could immediately see my light ends were significantly darker.

I styled my hair in six chunky flat twists and this was the end result. I absolutely love the new color....almost so much I'm contemplating doing a permanent job because after living with the semipermanent color for about two weeks now (I know I'm bad at keeping up with this stuff) I'm getting tired of all the color leeching onto everything. When I wash my hands the water is purple, if I put any creamy product in my hair...it turns purple. My cream colored winter coat color has a tinge of purple on it...it's everywhere.... But I still love it in my hair the most.

What do you guys think?

I'm Back!!

...but who know's for how long it will be...I'm bad about starting things when I'm bored and stopping when I get busy but who isn't right?? Not much has changed since August it's just cold as crap outside all of a sudden.

I really want to find a focus for this blog but I don't know if it should be my weight loss journey...my natural hair journey...things I cook, things I sew...my love life (or lack there of) or should I just make it a conglomeration of all of thee above but how then do I go about organizing it?? I don't know...

I have an app on my iPad that would make this blogging thing so much easier but I can't get it to work but I promise for all of my readers out there (wishful thinking) I'll get it together and have some entertaining posts for you all to look at :-) Until then!!
